Nursia's famous monk
Saint Benedict (c. 480–547) was an Italian monk who founded the Benedictine order and wrote the Rule of Saint Benedict, a guide for monastic life emphasizing prayer, work, and community.
His rule became the foundation of Western monasticism: The abbey follows the Rule of Saint Benedict.
