Desert Fathers
Early monastic pioneers
The Desert Fathers were early Christian hermits and monks who withdrew into the Egyptian desert beginning in the third century, seeking spiritual purity through solitude, prayer, and asceticism.
Their collected sayings and stories became foundational texts for Christian monasticism: The Desert Fathers influenced Benedict and later monastic orders. (Lowercase desert fathers is occasionally seen.)
