Romanian language
Latin-derived Balkan tongue
Romanian is a Romance language spoken primarily in Romania and Moldova, where it serves as the official language.
It descended from Latin brought by Roman colonizers to the region, making it the easternmost major Romance language.
Romanian retains grammatical features lost in its western cousins, including a case system and postposed definite articles: casa (house) becomes casa (the house) with the article attached at the end.
