Quaaludes

Seventies party pills

Quaaludes is a brand name for methaqualone, a sedative-hypnotic drug popular recreationally in the 1970s and early 1980s.

Users sought its euphoric, disinhibiting effects—sometimes called "luding out." The drug became associated with disco-era excess and date rape.

Now a controlled substance, Quaaludes are no longer legally manufactured in the United States: He popped a couple of Quaaludes and hit the dance floor.
