fen-phen

Banned weight-loss duo

Fen-phen was a weight-loss drug combination of fenfluramine and phentermine, widely prescribed in the 1990s.

It was withdrawn from the market in 1997 after being linked to heart valve damage and pulmonary hypertension: My aunt was part of the fen-phen lawsuit.

The name became shorthand for dangerous diet pills and pharmaceutical industry scandal.
