Prophet Muhammad
Final Islamic messenger
Prophet Muhammad, also spelled Mohammed or Mohammad, is the founder of Islam, regarded by Muslims as the final prophet sent by God to guide humanity.
Born in Mecca around 570 CE, he received divine revelations over 23 years that were compiled into the Quran, Islam's holy scripture.
Muslims preface his name with phrases of respect such as "peace be upon him." In Islamic tradition, he is considered the ideal human example, and his teachings and actions form the basis of Islamic law and practice.
