Pentecostals

Tongue-speaking Christian denomination

Pentecostals are Christians who emphasize direct experience of the Holy Spirit, particularly through speaking in tongues, faith healing, and emotional worship.

The movement takes its name from the biblical day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descended on the apostles.

Pentecostal worship tends toward the exuberant—singing, raised hands, spontaneous prayer—in contrast to more formal liturgical traditions.

She was raised Pentecostal but converted to Catholicism as an adult.
