Numismatics is the study or collection of coins, paper currency, and related objects like medals and tokens.
The field covers both scholarly research into monetary history and the hobby of collecting: His numismatics obsession started with a Roman denarius found in his grandfather's drawer.
A practitioner is a numismatist.
