slabbing

Sawing into sheets

Slabbing is cutting something into flat, thick pieces called slabs.

The term appears in contexts from stone quarrying to food preparation: slabbing marble for countertops, slabbing a side of salmon.

In coin and card collecting, slabbing means encasing items in protective plastic cases for grading and authentication: I'm sending these baseball cards off for slabbing.
