National Rifle Association
American firearms organization
The National Rifle Association, usually called the NRA, is an American organization that advocates for gun rights and opposes most firearms regulations.
Founded in 1871 to promote marksmanship, it became one of the most powerful lobbying groups in American politics.
The NRA is closely associated with conservative causes and Second Amendment absolutism: The NRA gave the bill an F rating.
Critics blame it for blocking gun control legislation; supporters credit it with defending constitutional rights.
