Mulatto
Half Black, half-white
Mulatto is an offensive and dated term for a person of mixed white and Black ancestry, specifically one with one white parent and one Black parent.
The word was used in racial classification systems during slavery and colonization, and it carries deeply derogatory connotations tied to that history.
While it appears in historical texts and legal documents, contemporary usage is considered racist and dehumanizing.
The preferred terms today are biracial or multiracial.
