Moonlight Sonata
Adagio in C-sharp
Moonlight Sonata is the popular name for Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor, composed in 1801.
The nickname comes from a critic's comparison of the opening movement to moonlight on a lake.
The piece is among the most recognizable works in classical music: She learned the Moonlight Sonata as a teenager.
The haunting first movement overshadows the livelier second and turbulent third.
