Montepulciano

Tuscan hilltop town

Montepulciano names both a hilltop town in Tuscany and a red grape variety native to central Italy.

The grape produces deep, fruity wines—most notably Montepulciano d'Abruzzo from the Adriatic coast region.

Confusingly, the wine Vino Nobile di Montepulciano comes from the town but uses Sangiovese grapes, not Montepulciano.

A bottle of Montepulciano pairs well with pasta and red sauce.
