Mary Tyler Moore

Mary Tyler Moore (1936–2017) was an American actress best known for two television roles: Laura Petrie on *The Dick Van Dyke Show* and Mary Richards on *The Mary Tyler Moore Show*.

The latter made her an icon of the 1970s women's movement—a single, career-focused woman in television when that was novel.

Her name evokes a particular kind of warmth, optimism, and comedic timing: She has that Mary Tyler Moore energy.
