Markdown

Lightweight text styling

Markdown is a text formatting language created by John Gruber in 2004, using simple punctuation marks to indicate structure.

Hash marks create headings, asterisks make text bold or italic, and hyphens form lists.

Widely used for documentation, note-taking, and web content, it prioritizes human readability: This README is written in Markdown. (Lowercase markdown is the same format in generic usage.)
