Hindu spiritual master
A maharishi is a Hindu sage or spiritual teacher of the highest order.
The title combines "great" with "rishi" (seer), designating someone regarded as having achieved profound wisdom and enlightenment.
The term gained wide recognition in the West through Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who popularized Transcendental Meditation and famously taught the Beatles: The maharishi attracted devoted followers from around the world.
