Luigi Galvani

Luigi Galvani was an eighteenth-century Italian physician and physicist who discovered that electrical stimulation causes muscle contraction.

His experiments with frog legs—making them twitch by touching nerves with metal—established the electrical basis of nerve impulses.

His name survives in galvanize, galvanic, and galvanometer.
