Legionnaires disease
Water-borne lung infection
Legionnaires disease is a severe form of pneumonia caused by Legionella bacteria, typically contracted by inhaling contaminated water droplets from air conditioning systems, cooling towers, or similar sources.
Named after an outbreak at a 1976 American Legion convention in Philadelphia.
The disease is not contagious between people: The hotel was shut down after guests contracted Legionnaires disease.
