King Philip's War

Metacom's New England

King Philip's War was a conflict between New England colonists and Native American tribes (1675–1678), named for the Wampanoag leader Metacom, whom the English called King Philip.

One of the bloodiest wars in American history relative to population, it devastated Native communities and ended significant Indigenous resistance in southern New England.

The name appears in historical discussions of colonial America.
