Kasparov
Garry Kasparov is a Russian chess grandmaster, widely considered the greatest player in the game's history.
He became world champion in 1985 at age 22 and held the title until 2000.
Kasparov is remembered for his 1997 match against IBM's Deep Blue computer—a landmark moment in artificial intelligence.
After retiring from competitive chess in 2005, he became a political activist and vocal critic of Vladimir Putin.
His name sometimes appears as shorthand for chess mastery or human-versus-machine competition: It's not like I'm playing Kasparov here.
