Karl Benz

Karl Benz was a German engineer who built what is widely considered the first true automobile—a gasoline-powered vehicle with an internal combustion engine—in 1885.

His company later merged to form Mercedes-Benz.

The name appears in discussions of automotive history: Karl Benz patented his Motorwagen in 1886.
