John James Audubon

John James Audubon was a French-American naturalist and artist best known for *The Birds of America* (1827–1838), a collection of life-sized bird paintings that remains a landmark of ornithological illustration.

His name lives on in the National Audubon Society, dedicated to bird conservation: We joined the local Audubon chapter.

Something Audubonian suggests detailed naturalist observation or appreciation of American wildlife.
