Israeli settlements

West Bank communities

Israeli settlements are Jewish communities established in territories occupied by Israel since the 1967 war, particularly in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Most of the international community considers them illegal under international law; Israel disputes this.

The settlements are a persistent flashpoint in Israeli-Palestinian relations: The expansion of Israeli settlements has complicated peace negotiations.

Residents are called settlers.
