IP addresses

Device network labels

IP addresses are numerical labels that identify devices on a computer network—essentially the digital equivalent of mailing addresses.

Each device connected to the internet has an IP address that allows data to find its destination: The website logged visitors' IP addresses.

Static IP addresses remain constant; dynamic ones change with each connection.

Because IP addresses reveal approximate location, they're relevant to privacy, security, and geo-restricted content.
