Hungarian minority
Ethnic group abroad
Hungarian minority refers to ethnic Hungarians living outside Hungary's current borders, primarily in Romania, Slovakia, Serbia, and Ukraine.
These populations resulted from the 1920 Treaty of Trianon, which reduced Hungary's territory after World War I.
The status of Hungarian minorities remains politically sensitive, involving issues of language rights, autonomy, and dual citizenship: Romania's Hungarian minority is concentrated in Transylvania.
