Thelonious Monk

Thelonious Monk was an American jazz pianist and composer whose angular melodies and dissonant harmonies helped define bebop and modern jazz.

His compositions—Round Midnight, Straight, No Chaser, Blue Monk—became jazz standards.

Known for his percussive attack, unexpected silences, and eccentric stage presence, Monk ranks among the most influential and recorded jazz composers after Duke Ellington.
