German U-boats
Atlantic wolf packs
German U-boats were submarines used by Germany in both World Wars, most notably in campaigns against Allied shipping.
The U stands for Unterseeboot (undersea boat).
U-boats became synonymous with submarine warfare itself—their devastating attacks on merchant convoys nearly starved Britain into surrender.
The convoy was attacked by German U-boats in the North Atlantic.
