Franklin stove

Colonial heating invention

A Franklin stove is a freestanding cast-iron fireplace that radiates heat into a room more efficiently than a traditional open hearth.

Invented by Benjamin Franklin in the 1740s, it burns wood while allowing the fire to be viewed through an open front.

The design influenced later wood-burning stoves and remains a fixture in rustic settings.
