English monarchy
Britain's ruling family
The English monarchy is the system of hereditary rule over England, now part of the broader British monarchy.
The term refers both to the institution and to the succession of kings and queens who have held the throne: The English monarchy dates back over a thousand years.
It may also designate the period of a particular ruler's reign or the monarchical system as distinct from parliamentary government.
