Edward Kennedy
Edward Kennedy, known as Ted Kennedy, was a United States Senator from Massachusetts who served from 1962 until his death in 2009—one of the longest tenures in Senate history.
The youngest brother of President John F.
Kennedy and Senator Robert Kennedy, he became a leading liberal voice on healthcare, immigration, and civil rights.
The 1969 Chappaquiddick incident, in which a young woman drowned after Kennedy drove off a bridge, ended his presidential ambitions but not his Senate career.
