DNA matching
Forensic hereditary comparison
DNA matching is the process of comparing genetic material from two or more sources to determine whether they share a biological relationship or come from the same individual.
It's used in criminal investigations to link suspects to crime scenes, in paternity testing to establish parentage, and in genealogy to identify relatives: The DNA matching confirmed he was the father.
Because each person's DNA is virtually unique (except for identical twins), a match provides strong evidence of identity or kinship.
