D.
H.
Lawrence (1885–1930) was an English novelist, poet, and essayist whose works explored sexuality, emotional vitality, and instinct against the deadening forces of industrialized society.
His novel *Lady Chatterley's Lover* was banned for decades in Britain and the United States due to its explicit sexual content, becoming a landmark obscenity case when finally published unexpurgated in 1960.
Other major works include *Sons and Lovers*, *Women in Love*, and *The Rainbow*.
