Council of Chalcedon
451 ecumenical assembly
The Council of Chalcedon was a gathering of Christian bishops in 451 CE that established orthodox doctrine on Christ's nature—fully divine and fully human in one person.
Its decisions shaped mainstream Christianity but split the church, as several Eastern traditions rejected the council's formula and remain separate to this day.
