Captain Scott
Polar expedition leader
Captain Scott refers to Robert Falcon Scott (1868–1912), the British Royal Navy officer and Antarctic explorer who led two expeditions to the South Pole.
His second expedition reached the pole in 1912, only to find Norwegian Roald Amundsen had arrived first; Scott and his party perished on the return journey.
The name evokes both heroic endeavor and tragic failure: a Captain Scott expedition into the unknown.
