Bolognese sauce

Italian meat sauce

Bolognese sauce is an Italian meat sauce from Bologna, typically made with ground beef, tomatoes, onions, and often wine or milk, simmered slowly until thick and rich.

It traditionally accompanies tagliatelle or other flat pasta, though outside Italy it's commonly served with spaghetti: I made a big batch of Bolognese sauce to freeze.

Often shortened to Bolognese: spaghetti Bolognese.
