Blackbird

Mach-three spy plane

A blackbird is any of several dark-plumaged songbirds.

In Europe, it's a thrush species; in North America, the term covers grackles, cowbirds, and red-winged blackbirds.

The Beatles' "Blackbird" made the word iconic in popular music.

Historically, blackbirding was the coercive recruitment of Pacific Islanders as laborers—essentially kidnapping.
