Africanized bee

Aggressive hybrid pollinator

Africanized bees are a hybrid of African and European honeybees, known for their aggressive defensive behavior.

They attack in greater numbers and pursue threats farther than other honeybees, earning them the nickname "killer bees." Native to South America, they have spread into the southern United States.

Individual stings are no more venomous than those of other honeybees, but mass attacks can be fatal.
