ASCII code
Text number system
ASCII code is a standard system for representing text characters as numbers, allowing computers to store and exchange letters, digits, and symbols.
Each character maps to a number from 0 to 127: the letter A is 65, a lowercase a is 97, a space is 32.
The file contained only plain ASCII code, no special formatting.
The system dates to the 1960s and remains foundational to computing, though Unicode has expanded character representation far beyond ASCII's limited set.
