yorishiro
Divine landing spot
A yorishiro is an object capable of attracting spirits and serving as a vessel for them in Japanese Shinto belief.
These can be natural objects like trees, rocks, or mountains, or crafted items like mirrors and swords.
The concept underlies much of shrine architecture and ritual practice—a sacred tree wrapped in rope or a mirror in a shrine's inner sanctum marks where a deity may dwell or manifest.
