yente

Gossip who intrudes

A yente is a gossip or busybody—someone who meddles in others' affairs and spreads rumors.

From Yiddish, the word carries the connotation of an older woman who can't resist prying into neighbors' business: My aunt is such a yente, she knows everyone's secrets.

The term is sometimes confused with "yenta" as a matchmaker, though traditionally yente implies nosiness rather than matchmaking.
