yenta

Meddlesome tale-spreader

A yenta is a gossip or busybody—someone who meddles in others' affairs and spreads rumors.

From Yiddish, the word carries affectionate exasperation more than harsh judgment: My aunt is such a yenta, she knows everyone's business.

The term sometimes extends to anyone who plays matchmaker or offers unsolicited advice about others' lives.
