www

www is an abbreviation for “World Wide Web” and it is also a standard component of the address of many pages on the Internet, as in http://www.idea.org.

Unlike most abbreviations, www is not typically spoken, except when dictating an Internet address.

This is because the letter w has three syllables and pronouncing them takes considerably longer than speaking the expanded form of the phrase or, more simply, saying “the Web.”
