working electrode
Electrochemistry's active surface
A working electrode is the electrode in an electrochemical cell where the reaction of interest occurs.
In a typical three-electrode setup—working, reference, and counter—the working electrode is where oxidation or reduction takes place while current is measured or controlled.
The term appears in voltammetry, electroplating, and sensor applications: The working electrode was coated with gold nanoparticles to improve sensitivity.
