reference electrode
Stable voltage standard
A reference electrode is a stable electrode with a known, constant electrical potential, used as a baseline for measuring voltage in electrochemical systems.
Common types include silver/silver chloride and calomel electrodes.
In a three-electrode setup, the reference electrode provides a fixed point against which the working electrode's potential can be measured: The pH meter's reference electrode needs replacing.
