A work-in-progress is something unfinished and still being developed—a novel being drafted, a painting not yet complete, software still in beta.
The term acknowledges imperfection while signaling ongoing effort: The manuscript is a work-in-progress, but I'll show you the first chapter.
People describe themselves as works-in-progress to suggest they're still growing or improving.
