woodrat
Bushy-tailed desert dweller
A woodrat is a North American rodent that builds large nests of sticks, debris, and found objects.
Also called pack rats, woodrats are notorious for collecting shiny or unusual items and carrying them back to their dens: The woodrat had decorated its nest with bottle caps and bits of foil.
They're distinct from the common rat, native rather than invasive.
