wooden puppet
Stringed carved doll
A wooden puppet is a figure carved from wood, manipulated by strings (marionette) or by a hand inside (like Punch and Judy figures).
Pinocchio is the most famous example.
Figuratively, calling someone a wooden puppet suggests they lack autonomy or emotion—controlled by others, stiff and expressionless: He sat through the meeting like a wooden puppet.
