wood rasp
Toothed shaping tool
A wood rasp is a coarse hand tool for shaping wood, with sharp pointed teeth that remove material quickly.
Unlike files, which have parallel ridges, rasps have individually cut teeth scattered across the surface, leaving a rougher finish that requires smoothing with finer tools: He used a wood rasp to round the chair leg before sanding.
