middle-of-the-roaders
Neither left nor right
Middle-of-the-roaders are people who take moderate or centrist positions, avoiding extremes.
The term comes from driving imagery—staying in the center of the road rather than veering left or right.
Most often applied to politics: Middle-of-the-roaders rarely excite the party base.
The label can be neutral or dismissive, suggesting either pragmatic balance or a lack of conviction.
