wild-men

Hairy forest dwellers

Wild-men is the plural of wild man—a person living outside civilization, or someone behaving in an unrestrained, uncivilized manner.

The term evokes medieval legends of hairy forest-dwellers, but extends to anyone acting recklessly or unconventionally: The wild-men of early rock and roll shocked parents.

In politics, wild-men are radicals or extremists within a movement.
